PhD Studentship: Understanding the policy-maker: How do promoters of institutional policies actually think?

University of Southampton - Department of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Southampton Business School has studentships available for postgraduate research students admitted full-time onto its PhD programme and commencing their studies in October 2018.

The award is available in the subject area of institutional theory and critical management studies. The successful candidate will probe the thinking processes and intentions underlying the promotion of policies expected to be adopted by organizations. The PhD candidate will theoretically and empirically scrutinize key tenets of institutional theory, such as the assumption that policy-makers always believe that policies can deliver what they promise and/or that organizations are invariably expected to substantively adopt promoted policies. The student can also explore the concept of “accounting myths”.  Students with a strong disciplinary background in the social sciences or the humanities are particularly encouraged to apply.

The student will be co-supervised by Dr Stratos Ramoglou (s.ramoglou@soton.ac.uk) and Professor Teerooven Soobaroyen (T.Soobaroyen@soton.ac.uk). Please contact Dr Ramoglou or Professor Soobaroyen for informal queries.
