Job Description:

Project outputs often involve the design, development and manufacture of prototypes to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6, and where they display opportunity for continued exploitation, products receive further support to move towards TRL8 or 9, close to market ready.  To facilitate a coordinated approach in moving prototypes to TRL6 and beyond, TWI IMG are establishing a Product Development Team to assist all projects in the latter stages realise their full potential.

Duties include: 

  • Provide manufacturing experience and knowledge in the early design stages
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement design improvements
  • Identify and resolve issues related to small scale production
  • Participate in feasibility analysis, project scoping, resource planning and cost estimating providing realistic task durations for schedule/milestone planning
  • Liaison with software, electronic and mechanical/mechatronic design engineers on the team to achieve successful outcomes to budget and timescale
  • Supervision of NSIRC student
  • Mentoring, guidance and support to NSIRC postgraduate industrial research projects

Skills Include:  

  • Good team and networking abilities, demonstrable initiative and self-motivation
  • A good mechanical/electrical/manufacturing engineering degree or HND
  • Relevant industrial experience in the design and production of new products is essential
  • Applicants should have proficiency with the design, development, test and analysis tools relevant to the function with practical hands-on experience in mechanical or mechatronic production

This role requires regular travel within the UK and occasionally overseas according to the demands of project work.

Permanent, Full Time, 36 hours p/wk, Competitive Salary
