As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for the smooth, efficient and secure operation of all key Linux services provided by IT Services and to participate in projects to introduce or change services. You will develop tools, processes and documentation to manage services in line with operational requirements, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the annual lifecycle and how it impacts upon the services provided to the University. The primary focus of this role is in the operational support of the Linux services in response to user requests, and is an excellent development opportunity for those wanting to gain exposure to our core underpinning infrastructure components.

As the ideal applicant, you will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience of working in a complex IT Service environment. You will have an excellent conceptual knowledge of major components of modern IT architecture and experience of Linux system administration and monitoring. Experience of Linux networking and security and of Shell scripting and programming in Perl or Python is essential.
