Research Associate in Low-Dimensional Materials - Thermal Phonon Transport

This is a position in the Center for Device Thermography and Reliability (CDTR), led by Professor Kuball, in the School of Physics. The CDTR is a world-leading research centre focusing on transforming the thermal management, electrical performance and reliability of novel microwave and power electronic devices, circuits and packaging, made of/for wide bandgap materials, such as GaN, SiC and diamond.

The role focuses on research in heat transport in electronic semiconductor materials, in particular its simulation using phonon based models. This work links in with experimental work in the CDTR on characterization of thermal properties of materials and devices. The CDTR runs the EPSRC programme grant GaN-DaME which develops GaN-on-Diamond technology and this position will be closely aligned with this research project. You should hold a PhD in Physics, Material Science or Engineering, with research experience in semiconductor materials and devices, simulation experience of phonon and/or electronic properties of materials and a good publication record. Experience of working with industrial partners and project report writing would be an advantage.
