Specialist Mentor

Oxford Brookes University - Directorate of Academic and Student Affairs

A vacancy has arisen in the Directorate of Academic and Student Affairs for a Specialist Mentor, working for 10 hours per week for 31 weeks per year during semester time.

As Specialist Mentor you will:

  • provide professional specialist mentoring for individual students with mental health difficulties and/or autistic spectrum disorders
  • conduct initial assessment of students (including risk assessment in relation to complex mental health needs). Select approaches relevant to the individual's needs and/or refer to other services where appropriate
  • manage a caseload of work with a range of students, including students from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • adhere to timescales, reporting procedures and record-keeping requirements of the BIS Quality Assurance Framework for DSAs-fundable Non-Medical Helpers.

You should have:

  • an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification or work experience
  • qualification or professional membership as required by the BIS Quality Assurance Framework for DSAs-fundable Non-Medical Helpers http://www.dsa-qag.org.uk/nmh-welcome
  • experience of working with individuals with mental health difficulties and/or autistic spectrum disorders in post-compulsory education
  • substantial experience of working within a related field.
