Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosciences

Chinese Academy of Sciences - Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosciences (BINN)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Theory group of Prof. Morten Willatzen at Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosciences (BINN).

Fixed-term: The funds for the post are available for 1 to 3 years in the first instance.

The successful candidate should have a PhD degree in Physics, Materials Science, or a related area.

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is associated with recent funding from a Talent 1000 contract and BINN. The positions focus on fundamental understanding of piezoelectricity in semiconductors and applications of bulk and nanostructures in sensor and energy harvesting. This will be achieved by investigating electronic bandstructures of piezoelectric nanostructures using DFT and/or tight-binding, k.p formalisms as well as their transport and photonic properties. We will apply both quantum- and continuum models based on analytical and numerical methods to determine fundamental limits of effective piezoelectric coefficients of nanostructure materials and to explore their use in novel piezophototronic devices. Close interaction with leading experimental groups at BINN and internationally on the growth and design of piezophototronic devices will be a main priority. The postdoctoral position will focus on one or more of these areas.

The recently started Theory group is in the process of establishing a dynamic, collaborative, international environment with diverse, talented researchers focusing on some of the hottest topics in nanostructures, piezoelectricity, and their applications. We are based at the Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosciences in Beijing (Director Zhong Lin Wang) as part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences with access to a wide range of experimental facilities.

If you are interested in the position, please contact Prof. Morten Willatzen (mortenwillatzen@binn.cas.cn). To apply, please attach all your materials in English in one pdf file and submit online to Prof. Willatzen via email. The file must include:

  • Application (cover letter) addressed to HR Director Denglun Zhang/Senior Professor Morten Willatzen.
  • CV.
  • List of publications indicating scientific highlights.
  • H-index.
  • Diploma (MSc/PhD).

Deadline for submission of the application is the end of July 2018.
