School of Public Health
Faculty of Medicine

Salary: £27,190 - £30,000 per annum

Campus: St Mary’s Paddington

Applications are invited to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology located at the St Mary’s campus, Paddington. The department is based within a five star research institute equipped with the latest technologies and facilities within Imperial College London’s School of Public Health.

The post holder will join the team of The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI), a research group based within the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology.

The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative works to improve the health and development of the world’s poorest populations by working to eliminate the poverty sustaining and life-threatening effects of schistosomiasis (SCH) and soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Communications Officer to join the SCI, to provide support to a growing team. Through work on multiple projects, ranging from digital to print, and support from an experienced communications professional, the candidate will gain experience in project management, creative content development and a greater understanding of communications strategy.

This work will contribute to SCI’s objective to support the delivery of 300 million treatments against schistosomiasis by 2020, by communicating the group’s activities and influencing continued funding. The post holder will be required to quickly understand the scientific basis of SCI’s work to develop engaging content which is easily understood by both informed and lay target audiences.

Candidates should have a degree in Marketing, Communications, Science Communications, or a related field with qualifications in International Development, desirable. We are looking for someone with experience of developing content for and coordinating development of materials (print, digital, social, events) for successful communications campaigns.

This is a full time fixed term post for 6 months. Imperial College is supportive of flexible working. The College is happy to discuss the possibility of implementing such arrangements for this post, with suitably qualified people, subject to operational requirements.
