Applications are invited for the key post of Assistant Librarian (Medicine and Science) based in the Franciscan Library. We are looking for a professional Chartered Librarian, with subject specialisation and some management experience.

The successful candidate will have an out-going personality, excellent communication, management and IT skills and a strong interest in user education and social networking. An advantage will be the knowledge and enthusiasm to play a key role in the development of the Library service to support the research and teaching activities of the University.

Responsibilities of the post will include liaison with academic staff, collection development, cataloguing on the Library system and an interest and knowledge of Open Access and Institutional Repositories, plus research skills training for students and supervision of auxiliary staff. Any experience of Library system management (Sirsi Dynix Symphony) is an advantage.

Applicants should have a good honours degree with a qualification in librarianship or information science, ideally with post-qualification experience as a Chartered Librarian in an academic library.
