Research Associate (Isogai Laboratory)

University College London – Sainsbury Wellcome Centre

The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (SWC) commenced research operations in Spring 2016 bringing together world-leading scientists to investigate how brain circuits process information to generate perception, form memories and guide behaviour. Developed through the vision and partnership of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and Wellcome, and with substantial investment from these partners, the mission of the SWC is to generate and test experimentally tractable theories of brain function.

The Isogai lab aims to understand the molecular and genetic framework of innate behaviours. The lab uses a combination of diverse approaches, including biochemical and molecular, genetic, cellular, imaging, and physiological methods in order to attain a detailed understanding of causal links between genes, molecules, circuits and behaviour.

The lab is now looking for a motivated and proactive postdoctoral Research Associate to join the team working on neural circuits underlying social behaviours or the system biology of gene regulation in the vertebrate brains. While at the Isogai lab you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the project using the cutting-edge molecular and genetic resources available, and will embrace the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues across the SWC and Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit.

The post is funded for one year in the first instance.

You will hold a PhD (or have submitted your thesis by the time of appointment) in neuroscience or a cognate area and be proficient at large-scale, complex data analysis. You will have an interest in the Isogai lab, and in working collaboratively with colleagues at SWC and the Gatsby Unit, and have experience of planning your own experiments and experimental timelines.
