Lecturer/Associate Professor, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)

Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University - Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Applications are invited for a position in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. The Department specialises in Energy and Power Engineering, Telecommunications, Microelectronics, Multimedia Technology, and Intelligent Systems. It currently has 27 academic staff and over 500 students (Years 2 to 4). 

The successful applicant will have, or expect shortly to receive, a Ph.D., or be able to demonstrate appropriate professional experience. Applicants will have good teaching experience and evidence of the ability to produce high quality research publications. Candidates for the position of Associate Professor should also have a strong track record in teaching and academic supervision, as well as an international research profile in their field and a successful record of research funding. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute expertise in mechatronics, mechanic engineering, robotic systems, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a unique collaborative institution, the first and currently the only university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees. The University now has over 10,000 students on campus, enrolled in programmes taught in English. The university is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), well-connected via nearby airports to cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, and via high-speed rail to other major cities in China. SIP is a major growth zone, including operations run by more than one-fifth of the Fortune 500 top global companies. Greater Suzhou is now the seventh largest concentration of economic activity in China in terms of GDP, and the SIP has been on the receiving end of both private and public investments into innovation and R&D.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is actively engaged in leading-edge research. EEE currently offers five undergraduate degree programmes: Electrical Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Telecommunication Engineering, Digital Media Technology, Mechatronics and Robotic Systems. The department also delivers an MSc in Sustainable Energy Technology and another MSc in Multimedia Telecommunications. In addition, more than 30 PhD students are currently hosted by the department.

The salary range for the positions is 21,084–32,412 RMB/month (Lecturer), and 32,904–44,918 RMB/month (Associate Professor). In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday” of up to three years, depending on nationality and personal circumstances.
