Chair in Strategic Management

University of Liverpool - University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS)

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

AACSB-accredited and with its full-time MBA ranked in the Economist top 100, ULMS is an international management school based in an enterprising and vibrant, world city of culture. Formed in 2002, with significant ongoing investment from the University, and led by the Director, Professor Julia Balogun, the School is well positioned to further enhance its national and international standing, giving particular emphasis over the next period to developing world-class research activity. The 170 academic staff enjoy a strongly collegial, research-supportive, and intellectually vibrant interdisciplinary environment. The pursuit of research which is internationally recognised for excellence in its originality, significance, and rigour is central to the School’s culture, as is delivery of a strong student experience. The School also has deep and long-standing connections with industry and the professions, which ensures that the research activity and external relationships within the School have a clear real-world impact.

Student numbers, calibre and satisfaction are high. The School’s new extension in the Georgian quarter of Liverpool is home to state of the art facilities, including a trading room. In addition to the main Liverpool campus, ULMS also offers a range of City-relevant programmes at its London campus in Finsbury Square, and significant online provision, as well as programme and research collaborations with its international partner, the International Business School, Suzhou (the Business School at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, near Shanghai). In its wider University setting, the School benefits not only from connections with key research institutes (the Institute of Risk and Uncertainty, and the Heseltine Institute of Public Policy), but from its location in a city which combines strong cultural activity, excellent transport links, and regional beauty with a world heritage skyline and is highly ranked on quality of life in the UK, while remaining one of Britain’s most affordable cities.

ULMS is now looking to appoint a Chair in Strategic Management to support its ambition to continue to build its research capacity at the highest international levels. Working within the thriving Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship Subject Group, the appointee will be expected to regularly produce high calibre research outputs; provide academic leadership in the form of supervision and mentorship of junior colleagues; provide innovative and engaging teaching; and identify collaborative research opportunities within the Management School, across the University, and externally.

Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with the appointee’s accomplishment and potential. Formal interviews will be held at the University on Thursday 22 March 2018, with short-listed candidates being invited to give a presentation to the School and meet academic colleagues the day before.

All informal enquiries to Professor Julia Balogun, Director of School, via Kate Dalton,, Tel: +44 (0)151 795 3002.
