The Bartlett Manufacturing and Design Exchange, B-made, the making and production hub within the Bartlett School of Architecture, is seeking five Technicians to provide technical advice and support to stakeholders across both the Bartlett’s Bloomsbury facility as well as the new facility at UCL Here East.

The post holders will be expected to work closely and interchangeably with the team of staff and Technicians based at both B-made workshop sites at the Bartlett’s UCL Bloomsbury facility and at the new UCL Here East facility and must be able to travel to both sites. Successful candidates will be offered a post that is based primarily at one site or the other depending on their CV and technical skills, taking into account the site that is best supported by those skills.

Technicians will provide technical advice and support to academics, scientists, students, researchers and staff by maintaining good service of the designated equipment and related tools. Technicians will discuss all aspects of the design and construction of projects with these stakeholders and instruct them on good mechanical practice, safe practice and compliance to safety standards established by the Workshop Manager. Technicians will also maintain and clean machines, stock relevant materials and source suppliers. They will be expected to report to the Workshop Managers, reporting any production problems and actively seeking solutions to these problems. Technicians will work well within a team and individually to organise, prioritise and regularly discuss progress of projects in conjunction with Workshop Managers.

We are seeking candidates who are qualified to A level (or have completed a recognised apprenticeship or possess equivalent experience) and demonstrate the ability and willingness to operate in a solution-centric manner. The successful candidates will possess in-depth knowledge in at least one of the Key Areas outlined in the Person Specification, gained through work experience. Advanced technical skills, coupled with knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety are also essential. A solid understanding of workshop principles and experience of working with minimum supervision, are also essential. In addition, the successful candidates will be committed to supporting the department’s wider operations and demonstrate a team ethos whilst remaining calm in a busy but rewarding environment.
