Are you interested in working at a top 100 university?

As one of the oldest and largest Geography departments in the UK, the Department of Geography at the University of Sheffield has a vibrant community of staff, undergraduates, postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers. The Department enjoys a long-standing international reputation for excellence in research and teaching. The proportion of our research outputs rated as world leading or internationally excellent in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework increased to 74% and all of our research-related impact was rated in these two highest categories. Our dynamic academic environment is developed through our six research clusters, including the Geographies of the Global South cluster (www.sheffield.ac.uk/geography/research/clusters/global_south).

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate an excellent research trajectory in Human Geography and International Development, complementing and enhancing the interests of the Department. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in teaching international development and the geographies of the global South; who have concrete experience of building strong partnerships, relationships and networks with colleagues in the global South required to develop world leading research programmes; and who can enhance our research performance within the Department and through collaboration with our interdisciplinary research centres.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent academic/professional achievement) and a track-record of research grant capture, or very strong potential for effective research income generation, including in GCRF.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
