Duties and Responsibilities

An opening exists for a researcher with a strong interest in behaviour change and food safety to undertake an 18-month research fellowship with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in collaboration with UCL Centre for Behaviour Change (CBC).

The post-holder will review academic evidence and evidence from FSA and others regarding consumers’ and food businesses’ food safety knowledge, attitudes and behaviour to identify possible areas of intervention and further research. They will input to the design, implementation and evaluation of pilot interventions and build behaviour change understanding and expertise within the FSA. The post-holder will be part of the FSA Analytics Unit, working closely with social researchers and other analysts within the economics, statistics and operational research teams. They will also work with policy colleagues from across the organisation. The post-holder will supervised by and meet regularly with Dr Fabi Lorencatto, CBC Research Lead. They will engage with and contribute to the CBC’s activities, research seminars, etc. to share their work and findings as part of the Fellowship.

The position is funded for 18 months in the first instance.

Key Requirements

Applicants should have a 2.1 (or higher) in a first degree in Psychology or a related subject area and a PhD in Psychology, Behavioral Science, or a closely related field. You should have a good knowledge of behavioural science evidence, methods and theory and be able to apply this to research and policy relating to food safety. You will have demonstrated expertise in using qualitative and quantitative methods including evidence synthesis and developing and evaluating interventions to change behaviour. You should have a proven record of running research projects, independent work and excellent organisational skills. You should have an ability to rapidly build rapport with academic and FSA collaborators and have a record of peer-reviewed publications.
