Research Associate – Polymer Chemist and Tissue Engineering

UCL’s Division of Surgery and Interventional Science houses a prestigious team of clinicians and scientists who conduct research into novel implants, tissue engineering, imaging and diagnostic tests for various diseases as well as evaluating minimally-invasive therapies. The successful candidate will work closely with 3D printing engineers, material scientists, and surgeons to synthesis and optimise 3D printable hydrogels and polymer nanocomposites, to conduct in vitro and in vivo assessment of biocompatibility of the printed construct. Formulation and printing of cell/stem cell bio-inks will also be performed.

This post is funded for 7 months.

The postholder must have a PhD degree in polymer chemistry, biomaterials, biology, tissue engineering, biomedical science & engineering or in a relevant discipline or have equivalent professional experience. Experience in polymer synthesis, 3D printing polymer hydrogel scaffolds for tissue engineering, experience in in vitro cell culture, especially respiratory epithelium cell culture and analysis and an understanding of regenerative medicine are all desirable. The postholder must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and have the ability to write scientific reports clearly and quickly.
