Research Technician

Marine Biological Association of the UK

The Marine Biological Association (MBA) is an independent research institute carrying out leading-edge research in fundamental and strategic areas of marine biology. We are looking for a research technician to be part of the five year European Research Council (ERC) funded MYCO-CARB project. The MYCO-CARB project will combine complementary methodologies to determine the underpinning biological machinery and ecological roles of marine fungi, including establishing their importance in the marine carbon cycle.

Educated to at least BSc level (or equivalent) in a biological subject, it is essential that you have practical experience of laboratory technician/biological scientific research work.  Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of facts, principles, processes and general concepts related to Laboratory Technician work with high degree of precision and accuracy. Experience in some of following areas will be an advantage: routine culturing and maintenance of microorganisms (e.g. media preparation, cryopreservation), processing biological samples (e.g. DNA/RNA extraction) and microscopy. Specific experience with fungi or marine microbes is not essential.

Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory. The post is available for 1 year initially with extension to 5 years. The candidate must be eligible to work in the UK. Salary £19,850 to £22,214.
