The School of Law, one of nine Schools and Departments in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, is committed to the highest quality of scholarship and research. It has ambitious plans to innovate in teaching and provide opportunities to students to become intellectually unique leaders in the legal profession and able to develop innovative minds. The Law School has two research centres that are a platform for the synergy of original ideas: the Centre for Chinese Law and Socio-legal Studies and the Centre for Law and Philosophy. The latter is the largest dedicated centre on legal philosophy and legal theory in the world.

Members of our academic staff have international reputations for research and are experienced legal practitioners, providing consultancy to law firms, governments, non-governmental organisations and businesses around the world.

To continue the development of success in teaching and research for the School, the University is seeking to recruit a new Head. A strong leader, strategically adept, capable of managing academic staff and providing motivational as well as inspirational leadership in pursuing the University’s and the School’s strategic goals.The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a desire and ability to grow the School and develop it into one of the best in the country, underpinned by belief in the importance of cutting edge research and societally relevant teaching.

Candidates will bring an excellent record of scholarship and research of international significance in law. Additionally, candidates will demonstrate a record of outstanding teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
