Creative Arts Fellowship in Visual Arts

University of Oxford - Wolfson College

Applications are invited for a Creative Arts Fellowship in VISUAL ARTS at Wolfson College, a graduate College of the University of Oxford.

The College offers a stipend of £10,000 per annum plus an allowance of £2,060 per annum towards the expenses of the Fellow, and provides an office for the duration of the Fellowship.

The Fellowship is intended for a person creatively engaged in any aspect of the visual arts. The person appointed will be expected to make a positive contribution to the cultural life of the College and to increase participation in the visual arts in College. Ways of increasing participation might include running workshops or exhibition visits—but these are just examples and we welcome new and fresh ideas.  The Fellow should be prepared to be an active member of the College Arts Society, which meets twice a term, and should live within commuting distance of Oxford.

There are no set hours of work and the person appointed will be expected to use their own judgment and discretion as to how best to allocate their time to achieve their goals. We would not generally anticipate that the hours of work, which will be undertaken on a flexible basis as necessary, will exceed 20 hours per week. The appointment is subject to producing satisfactory evidence of your right to work in the UK, obtaining satisfactory references, satisfactory completion of a medical questionnaire and signing a contract of employment.

The Fellowship will carry full membership of College and common table rights (ie an allowance of up to £44.60 a week for the Fellow’s own meals taken in the College Hall). The Fellowship will be tenable from 1 October 2018 for a period of two years, with the possibility of extension for one further year.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Clearly demonstrate his or her creative engagement with an aspect of the visual arts.
  • Demonstrate experience relevant to this Fellowship.
  • Provide evidence of sustained professional artistic activities of a high calibre.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for contributing to the cultural life of the College and a commitment to engaging with the College community, with a view to increasing awareness of and interest in the visual arts.

Applications should include the following:

  • An application form.
  • A curriculum vitae.
  • A brief summary of work to be done during the tenure of the fellowship.
  • Samples (or photographs) of work.
  • A statement of how you would propose to contribute to the cultural life of the College and increase awareness of and interest in the visual arts within the College.
  • Any additional information relevant to the application should be included in a covering letter.
  • The names of three referees.

Candidates should themselves write directly to their referees asking them without further request to send a confidential reference to the President’s PA by the closing date.

Interview Date: Tuesday 8 May 2018
