Doctoral Teaching Assistant x 2

University of Plymouth - Faculty of Arts and Humanities

School of Art, Design and Architecture

Salary: circa £5,960 per annum, plus full time MPhil/PhD fee waiver for 4 years (including one year of writing-up fees)

The School of Art, Design and Architecture is advertising for two Doctoral Teaching Assistantships to join its postgraduate research community of 100 researchers who work across a variety of disciplines recognised as world-leading. We have diverse centres of research excellence in digital technologies (i-DAT, Smart Cities, and Design Fabrication), Transtechnology Research, Photographic Research, Practice-led Research in the Arts, and research in Architecture and the Built Environment. Plymouth has long been a national leader in fostering creative industries practices and the study of interdisciplinary research. Research students in the School benefit from a collegiate research environment, and ever-increasing international partnerships (in USA, China, Middle East, South America, India and South East Asia).

These are detailed on the webpages of the relevant disciplines for Staff profiles and areas of research expertise.

In addition to a full-fee waiver for 4 years (full time MPhil/PhD), you will be trained to undertake teaching within a relevant subject area alongside our Undergraduate Programme team as well as participating in our research activities. You will not be expected to teach more than a maximum of 6 hours per week across a calendar year (factoring for 8 weeks holiday entitlement, equivalent to 264 hours). This will be paid at Grade 6 on the University's pay spine circa £5,960 per annum. Research training will be supported through the University's Doctoral College and the School’s Research Training programme, where you will be required to attend and pass various 'research skills' modules.

You are required to have a good honours degree (1st Class or an Upper 2:1) and likely a Masters degree in a relevant subject (completed with Distinction or a High Merit), and a strong wish to pursue a PhD in a relevant topic. You will also be interested in a career in the Higher Education Sector, specifically in teaching, and thus need to possess excellent communication and team working skills. You are highly encouraged to identify possible PhD supervisors in the School, and are invited to contact them in advance of making applications. Please see our Postgraduate Research page for research areas and staff expertise.

Closing date: 12 midnight, Monday 9th April

Interviews for these posts are expected to take place early May 2018.
