About Us

The MRC Harwell Institute is recognised as an international centre of excellence in mouse genetics. Within this context, the mouse is used as a model organism for investigating the causes of genetic disease in man. The Institute comprises two closely integrated partners, the Mammalian Genetics Unit and the Mary Lyon Centre.

About the Role

Working with scientific researchers in order to look after the health and welfare of colonies of experimental mice. This work includes animal handling, as well as maintaining a clean environment for housing mice and the upkeep of accurate computerised records. All work is governed by the local AWERB and the Home Office under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act.

About You

Experience of working with mice is not essential as full training will be given, including basic animal husbandry and theoretical background training. Good communication skills and attention to detail, together with a flexible approach and a genuine interest in the welfare of animals is essential.
