Research Information Analyst (Communications and Policy)

University of Cambridge - Academic Division

The Research Strategy Office is seeking an exceptional candidate to join as a technical and data specialist supporting the University's critical Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 submission. The role will be focused on training colleagues and facilitating the use of data concerning the research activities of all colleagues at the University, across all disciplines and career stages.

Day-to-day, our new colleague will:

1. Maintain and support research information systems and their use for colleagues around the collegiate University.

2. Write and present reports to senior leadership and management around the University based on insight from the data the information team has curated, specifically with reference to supporting REF.

3. Where possible, engage in more speculative projects to provide analyses that could help foster collaborative research across the University, and with internal and external partners.

You will be working both on your own projects and as part of our friendly team in collaboration with colleagues across the University. We have a customer-oriented ethic, supporting colleagues in all disciplinary areas to get the most out of the data that we curate and provide, so a can-do attitude and focus on adding value to others' work is essential.

You will need a good understanding of the way databases work, a problem-solving mind set, and the ability to think through the implications of changes in one part of a workflow on another. Experience of the higher education sector and an understanding of the way researchers work will be highly desirable. You will also need experience of training provision, relationship management, communications strategies, web development and/or data in order to be effective in the role.

You will be working as part of a small and supportive team, based at the Old Schools in an iconic building at the centre of Cambridge. The team itself is part of a vibrant, dynamic office that takes responsibility for supporting the senior leadership of one of the world's premier research institutions in their decisions relating to that research.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 August 2021 in the first instance.
