PhD Studentship - ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership

Sheffield Hallam University - Faculty of Development and Society - Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR)

The Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR), in partnership with the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), is pleased to offer this fully funded ESRC PhD studentship as part of the ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership.

The research will use a mixed quantitative-qualitative methodology to explore the interrelationships between local government and local, formally registered civil society organisations in a period of public sector austerity, focussing on resource flows, service delivery, and partnership working.

The partnership with NCVO will provide the student with unique access to a mentor and a practice based research environment, key data sets and policy stakeholders, and enable research findings to be disseminated for maximum impact. There will also be opportunities to undertake research placements within NCVO's Research and Policy Teams.

The successful applicant will have a keen interest in the role and value of civil society organisations across a range of public policy fields. This might have been developed, for example, through recent undergraduate or Master's study, or through a policy and analysis role within civil society and/or public sector organisations.

The start date for the studentship is 1 October 2018 and it can be undertaken on a part-time or full-time basis.
