University of Essex - School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering

The Department

This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) at the University of Essex. CSEE is a large and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. CSEE is internationally known for its research in a range of areas. In particular, our research is organised around two main themes: communications (for example, networking, future networks, wireless communications, multimedia communications and optical networks) and artificial intelligence (including assistive technologies, brain-computer interfaces.

Duties of the post

We wish to enhance the School’s existing research in the broad area of Communications and Networks as well as open up and develop new research activities that will become recognized as outstanding and internationally leading. We are particularly interested in applications in the following areas

  • Networking (e.g, IP networking, SDN networking, ICN networking, Network protocols, Fog/Cloud computing, etc.)
  • Wireless communications (e.g, antenna design, mmWave communications, 5G and beyond communications, etc.)
  • Green communication (e.g, energy harvesting, wireless power transmission, energy optimization, energy networks, etc.)

The duties of the post will include carrying out a programme of independent research in the areas of communications and networks leading to the publication of research articles or other research outputs, which can be returned under the Research Excellence Framework. The candidate is expected to attract funding to develop their research programme. The post also includes teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in electronic engineering and computer science, and in particular, teaching on networking and communication related modules. This may include delivering existing modules, developing new ones and generally enhancing our research-led teaching. The teaching duties may involve delivering modules at our partner university in China (Northwest University) as part of our partnership degrees. We aim for excellence in research as well as in education and are looking for candidates who can contribute to both.
