Academic Subject Leader - Design

The University of Gloucestershire is looking to appoint a senior member of staff to lead and develop an emerging and innovative subject area in Design, which will be part of the successful and expanding community in the School of Art and Design. Located at the beautiful Park Campus in Cheltenham, the University is investing heavily in staff and facilities. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, engaging and inspiring to join us to develop this new subject community and become part of our success story.

The subject area will include Design courses drawn from our current portfolio of Advertising, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design and Product Design at BA, MA and MDes levels. 

We have an opportunity for a talented individual with a real flair for leadership, teaching and research to join the team. We are looking for applications from Design and University Academic specialists to start as soon as possible. A key focus for the University is preparing students for their future career, be part of their future and help prepare the next generation.

Applicants will ideally have recent experience of teaching inHigher Education and have research and development in Design, and be keen to promote exciting learning experiences in the classroom using their industry connections. The ability to develop partnerships with industry and FE colleges is a key priority. The appointee will need to have excellent communication skills and demonstrate success when working in a team environment.

Applicants should have skills including research supervision and the ability to deliver teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate level. Typical subject areas will include Graphic Design, Advertising and Fashion Design amongst others, and the successful candidate will be expected to teach into one of these areas.

This role has a significant leadership profile and the successful candidate will joining the School Executive and be required to have a leadership role in the international development of the School of Art and Design in research, recruitment and study trips. Additionally, they will be expected to develop this new community so that it has further regional, national and international profile, and act as the lead for internationalisation for the School of Art & Design.
