Post-Doctoral Research Officer

The Optical Communications Research Group in the School of Electronic Engineering, Bangor University, has established its world-wide reputation in research in optical access networks and digital signal processing (DSP), and the Group is seeking to recruit two post-doctoral researchers to conduct a research project in the area of DSP-enabled flexible spectral converters and their applications for 5G networks. The scheme has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. EU Funds: Investing in Wales. The project is funded by the ERDF, and involves two industrial partners including Ciena and EFFECT Photonics.

Candidates should hold a PhD degree (or degree-equivalent) in relevant area of engineering or science and expertise in one or more of the following areas: i) DSP algorithms and their real-time FPGA-implementation, ii) optical transceiver design, optimisation and integration, iii) high-speed RF circuit design, iv) PON architectures, v) mobile networks, and vi) low-cost optical components including SOAs, RSOAs and VCSELs.

The successful candidates will be expected to commence 1st April 2018, or as soon as possible thereafter, and the posts are available for 36 months.
