Research Associate

University College London - Great Ormond Street of Child Health

Applicants are invited for a Research Associate within the laboratory of Dr Jasper de Boer at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. My group is interested in fusion oncoproteins which are often found in cancers with few other genetic lesions. We have developed a novel approach to identify drugs that target these oncoproteins. You will be investigating the potential impact of this targeted treatment in our pre-clinical models. We envision that successful completion of this study could lead to clinical trials that will completely change the life of these sick and vulnerable patients.

The goal of this proposal is to validate and extend this approach to other oncoproteins. This study will serve as a paradigm for targeting diseases driven by other “undruggable” proteins. The research will involve setting up pre-clinical research models using primary patient samples, with which to test the therapeutic efficacy of drug induced oncoprotein proteolysis. Transcriptional profiling of leukaemia cells coupled with next generation genomics will be used to determine the effect of this treatment.

Experience in haematopoietic tissue culture and molecular biology is essential, and experience with in vitro and in vivo haematopoietic assays is an advantage. Applicants must have (or at least submitted) a PhD in experimental biology, particularly haematopoietic and leukaemia research.

Previous experience with a productive track record working with haematopoietic and/or leukaemia cells is strongly recommended. Individuals without such experience, but with an exceptional track record in productive research in related areas, are also encouraged to apply.
