Assistant Career Consultant

University of Reading - Henley Business School

Henley Business School, part of the University of Reading, is an international institution renowned for its ground breaking work in delivering business education through its MBAs, Masters and Undergraduate programmes. The Business School is built on a strong foundation of personal and career development and has a global profile in this field. Personal development is a core module on most Henley programmes and is a significant element in the School’s approach to career development. Within Henley Careers our aim is to enable students to identify and pursue career goals, and to take control of their career learning. We help students understand their skills, strengths and abilities, through a range of psychometric and psychological tests and workshops. We continually evaluate industry trends to ensure our careers support is reflective to industry requirements in terms of skills, knowledge and behaviours needed. Which in turn helps to drive up Rankings (Financial Times, the Economist, QS) Accreditations (AMBA, EQUIS AACSB) and the DLHE outcomes.

Career Consultants act as leaders in career delivery within the business school and work as primary partners with academics and other professional partners to develop and deliver a strategy for employability and careers development. We are looking for an Assistant Career Consultant to learn from and support the individuals.

You will have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with a demanding and engaging client group
  • Strong abilities to empathise with people going through career choice decisions
  • Presentation skills and experience of making engaging presentations to different audiences
  • Willingness to work towards professional qualifications (AGCAS Post-Graduate Diploma/Henley PG Certificate in Coaching/Strengthscope Accreditation) which will meet our internal guidelines and expectations for professional careers coaching
  • Some knowledge of coaching/career delivery
  • Some understanding of the Business School labour market for the sectors that our students target including knowledge of recruitment procedures, job profiles and career development paths
  • Recent experience in corporate or industry environment, in particular within consultancy, marketing, HR, finance, IT or professional service
