Lecturer in Marine and Environmental Modelling

This post is available to undertake research in line with the research strategy and targets of The Sustainable Energy Pioneering Research Project within The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Science (EPS) and in line with Queen’s University vision of world class leadership in the pursuit of excellence with impact on society.

Particular emphasis is on modelling the marine environment including the environmental impact of renewable energy schemes, both coastal and offshore development and the hydrodynamics of marine structures.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education in Civil Engineering within the School and EPS, by teaching a broad range of subjects in hydraulic/marine engineering, environmental modelling, sustainable energy and design.

They will contribute to the continuous improvement of curriculum content, delivery, feedback methods, assessment methods, student employability and widening the overall student experience through interdisciplinary projects.

The post holder will demonstrate leadership by undertaking or contributing to major Institute, School, Faculty or University initiatives to grow research income, improve postgraduate experience and improve international student intake.

The Successful candidate will contribute to management and administrative processes of The Sustainable Energy PRP at a level commensurate with stage in career.

The successful candidate must have:

  • A minimum of a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) in a relevant area of engineering, naval Architecture applied mathematics or science.
  • A PhD in mathematical modelling of marine renewable energy structures or their impact on the environment or other relevant areas.
  • A sustained research track record to include published research which is REF returnable at 3* and 4* rating in top quality journals and refereed international conferences commensurate with stage in career.
  • Recognised excellence and reputation in specialist subject area among peers in the UK and internationally.
  • Evidence of quality grant applications, developing research methodologies, models, approaches and techniques.
  • Teaching experience at University level having demonstrated ability to design modules and assessment methods relevant to stage in career.
  • Evidence of supervising projects at either undergraduate or postgraduate level.
  • Contribution to a wider range of administrative tasks either at school or research group level.
  • Contribution to a wider range of community/outreach activities.
