A position is open for a talented, proactive postdoctoral researcher to work in the Stroke research group. This post seeks to establish whether differences in the number and functional aspects of circulating endothelial progenitor cells may correlate with the type, severity and outcome of ischaemic strokes. This project is also  looking  at the variation in elderly stroke patients compared to age-matched healthy volunteers and the difference between healthy young and healthy elderly volunteers. We are also investigating the activity of key pathophysiological elements (like VEGF, inflammatory cytokines, eNOS and NO) known to affect EPC count and function differ between patients with different stroke subtypes and between stroke patients and age-matched healthy counterparts. 

In addition the post holder will do all the statistical analyses required for the project and prepare scientific articles. Due to the nature of the work, there will be some occasional need for evening and weekend working.

This is a full time, fixed term position proving maternity leave cover. Applications for job share will be considered. This post will be based at the Nottingham City Hospital clinical sciences building.
