Senior Research Associate - Algorithms, Games, Mechanisms, and the Price of Anarchy

University of Oxford - Department of Computer Science

Wolfson Building, Parks Road, Oxford.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Department of Computer Science for a Senior Research Associate to work with Professor Elias Koutsoupias on algorithmic game theory.

The “Algorithms, Games, Mechanisms and the Price of Anarchy (ALGAME)” project covers many areas within the field of algorithmic game theory and consists mainly of three intertwined research strands: algorithmic mechanism design, price of anarchy, and online algorithms. You will be involved in expanding the current research on mechanism design, game-theoretic issues of blockchains, price of anarchy, and quantifying the effects of mechanisms (e.g. tolls) on the society of players.

As a Senior Research Associate on this project, you will be expected to develop research questions, agree clear task objectives, organise, and delegate work to other members of the team, as well as share responsibility for shaping the research group’s plans and the writing of group-funding applications for new research projects.

You should have a doctoral degree in computer science (or related discipline) and a strong publication record of research in algorithmic game theory or a related area. Experience of supervising staff, managing a research budget, and of making grant applications are highly desirable.

The post is fixed-term until 31 March 2019.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 28 March 2018.

Our staff and students come from all over the world and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diversity groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example maternity leave.
