We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research. MRC and UCL are jointly investing £30 million in provision of a dedicated new building in central London for the Institute which is due to be completed in April 2018, supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.

We are seeking to recruit a Tissue Governance & Quality Support post. Duties include preparing, review and providing input into quality assurance processes and documentation, organising and co-ordinating monitoring visits and audits and evaluating subsequent findings; registering human and other samples on to a database and into an archive(s); generating reports, and maintaining accurate records in line with legislation, local policy and standard operating procedures.

Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in a Biomedical, Life, Pharmaceutical or Biological Science; a postgraduate/MSc degree or equivalent in a Biomedical or Biological Science is desirable.

Substantial experience of working in a biomedical research/laboratory environment within an academic, NHS or pharmaceutical setting is important; proven experience of working to research governance standards;  maintaining and updating records and research/sample management databases; performing searches and solid monitoring and auditing experience are essential. An excellent understanding of research governance and regulatory requirements governing biomedical research in the UK and computer literacy including MS Office are also required.
