Research Fellow in Satellite Communications

University of Surrey - Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering

Location: Guildford
Interview Date: To be confirmed

The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) at the University of Surrey is looking to recruit 1 full-time Post-doc Research Assistant (RA) for a fixed term contact until 31st August 2019 to work on a new EPSRC grant—‘Optimising resources in future heterogeneous millimetre wave satellite and terrestrial systems’. The project is a collaboration between Surrey, Strathclyde and the Rutherford and Appleton lab (RAL). Using millimetre wave propagation data from the EU Alphasat programme we will investigate new techniques and technologies for future systems. The Surrey RA will be responsible for HTS satellite system techniques which will include smart gateways, hand over schemes as well as operation of air interfaces at higher frequencies.

ICS is a research institute which includes the 5G Innovation Centre and is housed in a new purpose built building with superb facilities. Around 100 researchers and PhD students are housed in the building which covers research in all aspects of communications.

Candidates must have a PhD in the radio/satellite area and preferably post doc experience. Good computer skills in MATLAB/C++ are required and a research publication record is highly desirable.

We are looking for ambitious candidates who are looking towards an academic career in the satellite communications field who would fit into our succession planning.
