The Agriculture and Food Development Authority - Teagasc

Location: This programme encompasses the research staff located at Oak Park and Johnstown Castle, the Crops and Environment Knowledge Transfer Departments, as well as staff in the Horticulture and Forestry Development Departments. The Head of Programme will be based at either Oak Park or Johnstown Castle.

Grade/Salary: Senior Principal Research Officer (SPRO), with a starting salary of €98,952 per annum plus a Programme Leader term allowance of €8,681 per annum. The current salary scale is €98,952 to €113,559. 

Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government policy, including Haddington Road Agreement.

Post Type: Permanent Appointment, with the Head of Programme assignment being for a five year term, which is renewable (subject to competition).

Basic Function:          

Leadership, Development and Strategic Management of the Crops, Environment and Land-Use Programme.  The role involves extensive liaison with policy makers, other state agencies, farm representative bodies and other organisations and businesses operating in the agri-food sector.  It also involves developing relevant relationships outside of Ireland in the EU and beyond.  The Head of Programme also participates in the operation of the overall Teagasc Research Directorate as a member of its Leadership Team.

Person Specification

Note: The ‘Essential’ qualifications, skills and knowledge outlined below are ‘must-have’ which will be used in the shortlisting process.

Essential Qualifications

  • PhD in Crop or Environmental Science or in another relevant discipline.

While a PhD is an essential requirement for this post, equivalent experience may be deemed acceptable solely at the discretion of the Director of Teagasc.

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience managing or leading relevant research/ knowledge transfer programmes or teams

Desirable Qualifications

  • A post graduate qualification in leadership, management or administration
