Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Quantum Information Theory

A research associate position is available at the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QETLabs). This is an open-ended post with funding currently available until November 2020. The post is part of an EPSRC funded Project “Simulating molecular quantum dynamics with photonics” and offers an ideal opportunity to work at the cutting edge of quantum science.

This project will focus on the development of new theoretical tools and applied quantum algorithms for integrated photonics pioneered at the Quantum Engineering Technology Labs at the University of Bristol. The proposed research targets, in particular, the demonstration of the quantum advantage with emerging or mid-term technologies and the development of applications for photonic simulations. The successful candidate will identify the set of problems that can be programmed into and resolved with photonic quantum technologies. They will develop, model, and theoretically analyse quantum algorithms for photonic simulations of complex systems, as well as potential platforms for their implementation. The project will largely be theoretical but will involve interactions with experimentalists. In collaboration with experimentalists at Quantum Engineering Technology Labs, the developed theory will be used to design simulators for complex system dynamics, yielding new applications for quantum photonics. The proposed interdisciplinary research will thus lie at the intersection of quantum information theory, computer science, quantum optics, and photonics.

Experience in one or more of the following is required: Quantum photonics, quantum information science. Experience of theory of quantum optics is essential.
