AIPT is an international research institute with world leading research spanning the scope of photonics from Optical Communications to fibre devices and sensors. AIPT was established over 25 years ago and is currently headed Prof S Turitsyn. The annual report for 2016 is available on the web site

The Senior Research Fellow will work for Prof Nick Doran funded by a new EPSRC project: Fibre Parametric amplifiers for Real Applications in Optical Communication Systems (FPA-ROCS). The Fellow will be the senior member of Prof Doran’s team and will be the key senior researcher within the above project. For further information regarding this project please see the website, The position will be for 3 years in the first instance but the Fellow will be expect to work with Prof Doran to generate new funded projects.

This position requires an experienced researcher who is likely to have significant proven postdoctoral experience and has an excellent recent publications record. The project is concerned with nonlinear fibre amplifiers for optical communications and a successful candidate will have experience in at least one of these areas. This could be gained either in academia or industry but experience of both would be preferable. The ideal candidate must have a good first degree in Electronic Engineering/Physics or equivalent, as well a doctorate in Photonics/Optical communications or equivalent industrial experience.

This is an important appointment and an exciting opportunity for the fellow to establish a long term research presence working in a very successful world-leading group. There will be opportunities to develop a research theme and an expectation to take responsibility for supervision of more junior staff (including students) and to be a leading member of the Optical Communications Group in which Prof Doran’s team is embedded.

Further particulars and application forms are available in alternative formats on request i.e. large print, Braille, tape or CD Rom.
