Commercial Director

University of Oxford - Bodleian Libraries

Old Bodleian Library
Broad Street

Grade 10: £53,691 – £62,219 with a discretionary range to £67,972 p.a.

The Bodleian operates a significant group of income generating activities - Publishing, Retail, Venue Services, Imaging Services, Electronic Enlightenment and Oxford Text Archive, Catering, Brand Licensing and Rights, which deliver services to customers, as well as providing information about the Bodleian, and promoting its brand, to the public worldwide.

Having seen a threefold increase in turnover during the past 6 years to a level of £3m we seek a dynamic individual to carry on the success of the current postholder.

As Commercial Director for Bodleian Enterprises, you will oversee and manage these existing activities, continue to seek ways to make their operations more connected and efficient, and develop new activities and income streams in line with the development of the Bodleian’s estates, collections and services.

With a degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification, you will also have significant experience of financial and staff management, highly developed entrepreneurial and leadership skills, and the ability to combine those activities with an acute awareness of the functions of a major research library in historic buildings. You will maximise the opportunities to raise revenue with sensitivity to the non-commercial objectives of the Bodleian that these will ultimately help to deliver.

This is a permanent, full-time post.

Owing to the nature of this post, candidates will be required to undertake a criminal background check as well as a financial background check. The possession of a criminal record or poor financial background will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.

You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered as a substitute for a supporting statement.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday on Monday 28 March 2018 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 12 April 2018.
