Governing Body Secretary

St Hilda's College, Oxford

St Hilda’s College invites applications for the post of Governing Body Secretary. The person appointed will have a good Honours degree, proven administrative ability in a complex academic institution to include extensive committee experience.

Founded in 1893, St Hilda's is one of the constituent Colleges of Oxford University.  It is a thriving intellectual community, and enjoys one of the most beautiful sites in Oxford, being set in spacious gardens on the banks of the Cherwell, close to Magdalen Bridge.  St Hilda’s College has undergone recent exciting expansion in both scale and scope of activities and in order to adapt the structure of the administration to these expanded activities, the College established administrative support in the role of a Secretary to the Governing Body (GB). The GB Secretary has a part-time senior role in academic liaison and administration. The post of GB Secretary is a key position in the governance structure of the College supporting the Governing Body (the Trustees) of the College and will work closely with the Principal (Chair of GB), the Vice Principal and other College Officers. The primary role of the GB Secretary is to service the GB Committee meetings and the General Purposes Committee (GPC) that makes recommendations on academic policy and planning and reports directly to GB. GPC and GB together are held on five or six occasions over the eight week period during full term. The post is part-time (0.6 FTE) which is more demanding during term-time and less so outside of full term. Managing the fluctuating workload requires judgment, personal organization and flexibility, as well as an ability to work to deadlines.

The appointee will be paid on a scale from £35,550 - £44,992 pro rata, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will also be eligibile for group private medical insurance, 30 days (pro rata) paid holiday and 8 public holidays annually, and will be a member of the Senior Common Room, and will be entitled to meals free of charge when working.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd April 2018. Further particulars, including details of how to apply, may be downloaded from the College website at or obtained from the Senior Tutor, St Hilda’s College, Oxford OX4 1DY (
