Senior Group Leader in Biomedical Data Science

The Oxford University Big Data Institute (BDI) is a new interdisciplinary research centre aiming to develop, evaluate and deploy efficient methods for acquiring and analysing biomedical data at scale and for exploiting the opportunities for large-scale studies. The Institute provides core facilities in high performance computing and houses about 350 researchers drawn from a wide range of departments.

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Group Leader in Biomedical Data Science to lead a research group and a programme of independent research projects in the area of statistical and computational methods for analysing high throughput biomedical data. You will provide high level academic leadership for your group, develop innovative approaches to research challenges and play a key role in shaping the scientific strategy of the BDI.

Applicants should be an internationally leading authority in a relevant field (statistical methodology, computational tools, analysis of large cohorts etc.) with a track record of innovation and an outstanding publication record in prestigious international journals. Significant experience of developing research strategies, delivering successful research projects and an excellent reputation regarding teaching and academic supervision are also essential.

This is a joint appointment between the Nuffield Department of Population Health and the Department of Statistics. The postholder will be based within the BDI and will have ready access to scientific groups and opportunities for teaching and DPhil supervision within the BDI, both departments, and the wider University.

The position is open-ended and full-time (although part-time considered).
