Post-doctoral Researcher in Structural Biology / cryo-EM

Purpose and Main Duties
We are seeking a driven and ambitious post-doctoral researcher to join our group working on the high resolution structure determination of yeast respiratory complex IV in isolation and in supercomplex using cryo-electron microscopy. The main focus of the role will be on the image processing aspect of the project.

The applicant will be part of an established group working on yeast respiratory complex IV, and will also benefit from the excellent cryo-EM facilities at Birkbeck.

Candidate Requirements
The minimum requirements for selection are listed below:

  • Applicant should have experience in 3D protein structure determination, ideally by cryo-EM, and relevant research publications.

Please note: candidates need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.

In addition it is desirable that candidates have:

  • Practical skills in membrane protein expression, purification and biochemical characterization and experience in the preparation of proteins for analysis by cryo-EM would also be beneficial.

Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £37,169 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and fixed term for a minimum of 5 months. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 12 months.
