General Support Technician

University of Birmingham - School of Engineering/Department of Civil Engineering

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £19,156 to £20,514. With potential progression once in post to £25,009 a year

The post provides general technical support to the School of Engineering, primarily in the Dept. of Civil Engineering. The post holder is required to use their technical skills and expertise to support across the range of Engineering’s activity. The post holder will support staff and students alike and will contribute to the work of the technical team, assisting them in the setting up of experiments and to provide training in the use of a wide range of techniques and equipment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Education to GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) to include Maths, English and Science.
  • Relevant laboratory/engineering workshop experience, ability to maintain and repair equipment desirable.
  • A good knowledge, experience, understanding and appreciation of health and safety ssues.
  • Good computer skills.
  • A positive, flexible and proactive attitude is essential.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to undertake training that is required for, or will enhance the position.
