Associate Lecturer A: International Sports Law

Purpose and Main Duties
The Department of Management is currently looking for a part-time fixed term Associate Lecturer A to teach the following Level 7 postgraduate module in the summer term on Fridays.

International Sports Law
Start date Friday 27 April 2018.

Teaching is for 3 hours once a week, in the evenings from 6-9pm, for 9 weeks.

Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the module. You will deliver teaching to Birkbeck students in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required.

Candidate Requirements
In addition to the job requirements outlined on the attached role profile the minimum requirements for selection are as follows:

  • A degree in Law, or a closely related subject or significant experience in the field of governance and regulation of sport.
  • Relevant teaching experience, ideally working with adult students within the FE/HE sector.
  • A good understanding of the needs of part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
  • Experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
  • Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
  • A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, email and experience of/or willingness to use Moodle, Birkbeck’s virtual learning environment.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.
  • Willing to engage in reflective practice.

Please note: candidates will need to demonstrate competence or significant potential in all areas.

In addition it is desirable that candidates have:

  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant area.
  • Work experience in a relevant field.
  • Significant experience of teaching adults from a wide range of backgrounds, particularly in HE.
  • A teaching qualification.

Remuneration: Grade 7 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is starting rate £58.53 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) for contact hours worked.

The salary quoted above is based on an hourly rate dependent upon length of service with the College. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation; teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course. The College’s London Pay Scale includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. This appointment is subject to a probationary period of 18 months.
