Duties and Responsibilities

This post is in the Department of Space and Climate Physics ( at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory. The Department is part of the UCL Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS). MSSL is located in its own campus in the Surrey Hills, surrounded by woodland and is the UK’s largest university space research group. Space science is a discipline that demands highly innovative technologies and MSSL has an international reputation for excellence in this area. The engineering groups have all the capabilities needed to design, build and test space science instruments in house.

The post is initially funded for two years and is expected to continue after this period pending funding.

Key Requirements

As part of the instrument development teams, the post-holder will be expected to hold a first or higher degree in a mechanical engineering discipline. 

He/she will also be expected to support the Senior Mechanical Engineer in maintaining instrument functional and performance requirements, assist in development of the instrument system solutions and provide mechanical and thermal oversight of the development programme at all the VIS and PanCam team institutes. He/she will also be expected to plan and oversee the thermal and mechanical testing and verification across the consortium institutes.
