Research Associate in Computational Methods for Catalysis

Cardiff University - Cardiff School of Chemistry

We seek to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated scientist with proven intellectual and technical abilities to work on a new Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) project; Synchrotron Techniques for African Research and Technology (START). One of the principal goals of START is to establish a partnership of world leading researchers in the UK and Africa to use advanced synchrotron based characterisation techniques and computational methods to study the next generation of energy materials. This part of the project will be focussed on developing and applying computational methods for establishing structure-function relationships in areas of heterogeneous catalysis for energy applications.

The researcher will be part of the research group of Professor Richard Catlow, which is based at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) and is associated with the broader UK Catalysis Hub programme. This is a significant opportunity to be part of an established research group with strong links to national and international networks in the field of catalysis. The location at the RCaH provides unique possibilities to interact with the world-leading research facilities on the Harwell Campus, e.g. Diamond Light Source and the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. The successful candidate should have first-hand knowledge and experience of computational methods in chemistry and/or materials science. Experience in their application to catalysis would also be desirable.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Computational Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science or relevant industrial experience, and a track record of academic and research excellence. Potential candidates should also demonstrate an ability to write research papers independently, present their work at international conferences and be able to work successfully with other research groups.

Further information is available at the following group webpages: Prof. Richard Catlow
