Research Associate (Two positions)

Imperial College London - Medicine/Infectious Diseases

Campus: St Marys

Two post-doctoral Research Associate positions are available in the laboratory of Dr Marcus Dorner, Section of Virology, Department of Medicine, Imperial College London. Both posts are part of a Wellcome Trust-funded research programme with the aim of establishing novel model systems to study hepatitis B virus pathogenesis in vitro and in vivo.

The successful candidate will join an international team of scientists and work on the identification of novel host factors, which contribute to different aspects of the hepatitis B virus life cycle in human and non-human cells. Based on a novel 3D microfluidic culture platform for primary human hepatocytes and other non-parenchymal cells (Ortega-Prieto et al. 2018 Nature Communications), human xenograft mouse models with repopulated human liver and/or immune system and advanced genome editing in mice, this project aims at furthering the understanding of which host factors contribute to viral entry, capsid nuclear import, generation and maintenance of cccDNA and ultimately, disease pathogenesis. This will be achieved using an array of state-of-the-art techniques, ranging from CRISPR/Cas9-mediated high-throughput genome-wide screening, lentiviral cyclic repackaging screens to in vivo genome engineering and xenotransplantation models.

Candidates should have a PhD in Biology or a closely related field and have experience with cell culture and standard laboratory techniques including Southern blot, ELISA and quantitative PCR. Knowledge and experience in working with hepatitis B virus as well as handling primary cell cultures are advantageous.
