The appointment will be on UCL Grade 9. The salary range will be £55,163 - £59,981 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is a research department within the UCL Cancer Institute at University College London. The CTC conducts primarily multi-centre national and international across in a variety of cancers, and is one of the largest in the UK. It has a portfolio of more than 110 studies over the past 5 years (phase I to III trials, and observational studies).

The CTC is a UKCRC Registered Trials Unit, with more than 100 staff, and is part of the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodolgy at UCL. The CTC receives most of its funding from Cancer Research UK through a 5-year programme grant, supplemented by public sector funding, charities and commercial companies. This post of Trials Group Manager/Lead will manage staff who conduct trials in one of our four main groups (mainly, gastrointestinal, prostate, sarcoma and head and neck trials), and there is an opportunity to make important contributions to cancer clinical research.

Although the post is based at the CTC, occasional travel to participating sites in the UK and possibly overseas will be required. This senior post is funded on the core Cancer Research UK programme grant until 30 September 2023 in the first instance.

The successful applicant must have a thorough knowledge and experience of all stages of the life cycle of clinical trials. In addition a detailed knowledge of the regulatory and legal requirements governing the conduct of the clinical trials of medicinal products in the UK is required. The successful candidate will be expected to have or develop specialised expertise in the areas under study and be a representative for the CTC to national and international bodies. The postholder will work with clinicians, scientists and statisticians to develop studies, obtain funding and contribute to the publication of results. The postholder will also oversee the running of trials in their team (which includes trial co-ordinators and data managers), and will be a member of the CTC Senior Management Group, responsible for the strategic, financial and operational  management of the CTC. Candidates with a special interest or experience in financial and project management would be particularly welcome.

The postholder will should be educated to degree level and have publications, preferably in clinical trials or a relevant postgraduate qualification. The postholder should also have experience in clinical trials in an academic and/or pharmaceutical industry environment.
