Chemical and Biological Technician (Bioelectrochemical Systems and Geomicrobiology) - D114093T

We are seeking to appoint a research technician with experience of microbial bioelectrochemical systems and microbial community analysis to work on Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and Natural Environment Research Council funded projects.

The projects include collaboration between the School of Natural and Environmental Sciences and the School of Engineering at Newcastle University. The projects are focussed on development and field application of microbial bioelectrochemical systems (microbial fuel cells) as Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) sensors and characterization of microbial communities in arctic marine sediments.

You should hold an HNC/D level qualification or above in a relevant subject area (e.g. biology, chemistry, electrochemistry, chemical engineering) and have experience of chemical analysis, microbial community and molecular biology analysis and electrochemical analysis and ideally construction and operation of electrochemical cells, data logging etc.

This is post is fixed term for a duration of 24 months. This position may be suitable for a 50% job share arrangement and applications are welcomed from those who would prefer to work part time.
