Full time starting salary is normally in the range £29,799 to £38,832. With potential progression once in post to £41,212 a year.

We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher who together with UK industry and US academic partners develops new fibre-optic distributed temperature sensor networks for identifying and quantifying highly dynamic surface water and groundwater quality responses to storm events. Their role will involve leading an experimental field team for borehole and river installations in the UK and the US.

The role requires the capability and appetite to conduct complex field work and analyse large datasets, as well as the ability to drive vehicles in the UK and US. Besides comprehensive data analysis and presentation skills, expertise in working with large datasets will be essential.

Skills required for this post are as follows:

  • First degree in area of specialism and normally, a higher degree relevant to research area or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
