Strategic Research Facilitator (Platforms & Industry)

University College London - Office of Vice-Provost (Research) - BEAMS

With the publication of the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy White Paper in November 2017, and the planned investment in research and innovation via the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, we are now seeking to appoint a Strategic Research Facilitator (Platforms & Industry).

The role of the postholder will be to coordinate and support the development of new and existing industrial partnerships across the BEAMS School, facilitating the exchange of research-generated knowledge, embedding better understanding of industry trends, opportunities and challenges, and promoting collaboration in areas aligned to the Industrial Strategy.

The postholder will also support a review of research facilities and equipment within the School, and will actively promote procedures and platforms encouraging the sharing and efficient use of equipment, especially with our partner organisations.

Funding is available to support this post until 31 March 2020 in the first instance.

The post is likely to appeal to candidates with experience of working in a world-leading research university, as well as an awareness of industrial trends and drivers, and who have a broad interest in research and innovation, particular in areas relevant to the BEAMS School. Candidates will have experience of successful project management and outstanding team working and interpersonal skills.

The post-holder will have direct experience of research in a discipline relevant to the School, as well as an understanding of the wider funding and policy context for research in the UK higher education sector. She or he will have a passion for multi-disciplinary engagement, and an understanding of the challenges involved in bringing together researchers from a variety of faculties and departments, as well as working with partners in the commercial sector.

Applying her or his excellent communication and facilitation skills, the post-holder will work closely with other members of the BEAMS Research Coordination Office/Office for the Vice-Provost (Research), as well as Faculty Deans and Vice-Deans (Research) and (Enterprise), Partnership and Innovation Managers in the Office for Vice-Provost (Innovation & Enterprise), and the wider BEAMS research community.
