Lecturer in Fashion Image and Communication

University of Huddersfield - School of Art, Design and Architecture

Permanent, Part-time 0.5 FTE

The Department of Fashion and Textiles currently offers a dynamic mix of fashion, costume and textiles courses and is committed to promoting high quality research, and teaching and learning which reflects contemporary professional practice, theoretical contexts and fashion industry applications. Our approach to delivering our fashion courses is to blend research-informed insight with contemporary industry practice, placing creativity, enterprise and employability at the heart of our students' learning experience. Our fashion design philosophy is built upon an appreciation of theoretical and contextual issues, creative approaches to design, and deep technical and commercial knowledge.

We are looking for a person to play a key role in developing the Fashion Image, Communication and Business area. Teaching is through lectures, seminars and tutorials where you explore key concepts in fashion culture, fashion writing, communication and historical studies. You will work with students to introduce a range of research methods and approaches, to consider the politics of creative practice and to encourage critical thinking. There are a large number of students across this portfolio of courses from a wide range of backgrounds, therefore a commitment to student centered teaching and learning is expected. You will be working with a team of research-active lecturers, full time, fractional and associate lecturers, as well as other academic, technical and administrative staff.

With a PhD qualification, ideally you will have specific knowledge of cultural studies/business in fashion/costume.  You will be joining a dedicated, passionate and forward-thinking fashion/costume team, and will support the course leader in a range of professional activities.

Please note that unfortunately the University cannot offer sponsorship for this role under the Points Based Immigration System. This is because the post is part-time (0.5 FTE) and therefore the rate of pay does not meet the requirements set by the UKVI. If you have any queries regarding this please contact HR via hr@hud.ac.uk
