This project is responsible for examining how small arteries function in health and in obesity.  The appointee will be required to image intracellular calcium events in vascular smooth muscle cells and in intact arteries, isolate vascular myocytes and undertake electrophysiological protocols to assess myocyte potassium currents. Techniques available in the lab include wire and pressure myography, high speed spinning disc confocal microscopy, microelectrode recordings of pressurised arteries, molecular approaches and patch clamp electrophysiology.

You will also be expected to actively participate in regular laboratory meetings and assist in the laboratory supervision of students and technical staff. Research in the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences is highly collaborative and multidisciplinary in nature, and the Institute will provide an excellent environment in which to develop your research career.

You will be based in the Core Technology Facility (CTF) Grafton Street.  Most of the cardiovascular groups are based in these state-of-the-art purpose-built research laboratory and office suites providing an integrated and stimulating research environment for our biomedical scientists.
